Five days of Eid ul Adha enjoy this year
ABU DHABI: People in Pakistan, the UAE, and around the world had a long holiday for Eid ul Fitr. Now, astronomers have provided an update about the upcoming Eid ul Adha break.
Eid ul Adha
In the United Arab Emirates, life is gradually returning to its usual rhythm after the extended Eid ul Fitr holidays.
However, another significant break is on the horizon, as Eid ul Adha, the second major Islamic festival, is anticipated to bring a five-day weekend in the second week of June 2024.
Eid ul Adha, occurring around two months after Eid ul Fitr, follows the lunar-based Islamic calendar. The exact dates will be confirmed closer to the time, as the months in the Islamic calendar last either 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon.

Typically, Arafah Day falls on Dhul Hijjah 9, followed by Eid ul Adha celebrations over the subsequent three days.
According to the Hijri calendar shared by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), Dhul Hijjah 1 is projected to commence on Saturday, June 8.
Consequently, Arafah Day is anticipated to be observed on Sunday, June 16, with Eid Al Adha following on Monday, June 17 (Dhul Hijjah 10).
The expected break is likely to span from Sunday, June 16, to Wednesday, June 19, inclusive of the weekend (Saturday, June 15). However, these dates are provisional and subject to change pending moon sightings.
Eid ul Adha, also known as Bakra Eid or Qurabani Eid, holds profound significance in Islam, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) unwavering obedience to Allah SWT. This sacred event epitomizes the values of faith, sacrifice, and compassion inherent in Islamic teachings.
The day begins with congregational prayers at mosques, where believers gather to seek blessings and divine guidance.
Following the prayers, Muslims perform Qurbani, the sacrificial offering, mirroring Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) profound devotion. The meat is then distributed among family members, friends, and the less fortunate, symbolizing the spirit of sharing and generosity.
